Abstract
Drawing inspiration from Kevin Lynch's urban theory and my life experience in Shenzhen, I used design to record the numerous urban gaps in Shenzhen's Gangxia Village and the survival difficulties faced by the vendors there. Using Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and the Fibonacci Sequence, I set up a coordinate grid to extract graphics of these gaps from the buildings within the village.
I ultimately created a localized typography, a series of transcripts, Unity-based augmented reality interactive animations, and digital maps. Through the lens of narrative, I invite visitors to explore the relationship between urban space, body, and power, observe the squeeze of external forces on the employment and living environment of street vendors, and how they use unique strategies and search for identity to solve the problem of spatial ownership.
